Comet Granite Profile

Comet Granite is a classic, dark-toned stone finish within the PG Bison MelaWood range. It is a staple in the Value Range, designed to provide the look of natural polished granite at a more accessible price point.

Aesthetic and Texture

Comet Granite features a deep charcoal-to-black base peppered with fine, multi-colored speckles—typically in shades of grey, white, and subtle silver. It mimics the “salt and pepper” appearance of igneous rock.

  • Peen Finish: This is the standard texture for Comet Granite. It is a slightly stippled, low-gloss finish that is incredibly durable and excellent at hiding fingerprints and light scratches.

  • The Look: It offers a dense, busy pattern that provides a sense of “weight” to cabinetry. Unlike the modern, veined stones (like Tucana), Comet Granite has a consistent, uniform distribution of detail.

Design Applications

Because of its durability and neutral dark palette, Comet Granite is a “workhorse” decor:

  • Kitchen Carcasses & Frontals: Frequently used in high-traffic or rental properties where a dark, resilient finish is needed to hide wear and tear.

  • Laundry Rooms: Its stone-look makes it a popular choice for cupboards in utility areas where functionality is the priority.

  • Budget-Friendly Countertops: When applied to a thicker board, it serves as an affordable alternative to real stone for work surfaces in garages, workshops, or staff rooms.

Recommended Pairings

Comet Granite is a versatile dark neutral that works well with most standard solids:

  • The Classic Duo: Pair with Folkstone Grey or Storm Grey for a safe, professional, monochromatic look.

  • Brightness: Combine with Iceberg White to lift the space and prevent the dark granite from feeling too heavy.

  • Industrial Contrast: It looks great alongside Urban Steel for a raw, masculine aesthetic.

  • Hardware: Best suited to satin chrome or brushed stainless steel handles to match the “silver” speckles in the grain.

Technical Specifications

  • Core: Typically available on BisonBord (particleboard).

  • Standard Size: 2750mm x 1830mm.

  • Standard Thickness: 16mm is the most common for cabinetry.

  • Hygiene: Includes the standard anti-bacterial additive common to the MelaWood range.
