Kirkwall is a contemporary woodgrain finish within the PG Bison MelaWood Expressions range. It is part of the “Demand” collection, designed to offer a modern, sophisticated take on traditional timber aesthetics.

Aesthetic and Texture

Kirkwall is a mid-to-dark tone woodgrain characterized by its “greige” (grey-beige) palette. It features a muted, desaturated brown base with cool grey undertones, making it a highly architectural finish that fits well in modern urban designs.

• Natural Touch (NT) Finish: Kirkwall utilizes the premium Natural Touch texture. This is a synchronized (or “synced”) finish, meaning the physical texture you feel on the surface—the ridges, pores, and grain—aligns exactly with the printed wood pattern you see. This creates an incredibly realistic “real wood” feel.

• Grain Pattern: The design features a linear, subtle grain with occasional “cathedrals” (arched grain patterns). It lacks the heavy knots or rustic cracks of finishes like Brookhill, opting instead for a cleaner, more refined look.

Design Applications

Kirkwall is frequently used in high-end joinery where a tactile, organic element is needed:

• Premium Kitchens: Often used for tall pantry units or large kitchen islands. Because of its desaturated tone, it doesn’t “yellow” under artificial kitchen lighting.

• Home Offices: It provides a professional, calm aesthetic for desks and shelving, offering the warmth of wood without being overly traditional.

• Vanities and Bedroom Units: Its neutral color palette makes it easy to coordinate with various flooring types, from tiles to carpets.

Recommended Pairings

Kirkwall’s neutral “greige” base makes it very easy to pair with other PG Bison finishes:

• Solid Contrasts: It looks exceptional when paired with Storm Grey or Dunblane Grey for a tonal, monochromatic look. For a sharper contrast, use Iceberg White.

• Moody Palettes: Combine it with Petrol Blue or Kalapana for a sophisticated, high-end interior.

• Hardware: It is best suited to matte black or brushed gunmetal hardware to emphasize its cool undertones. Brushed brass can be used to pull out the subtle beige warmth in the grain.

• Standard Thickness: 16mm is the industry standard for cabinetry.
